About · portfolio demo
Lekali Journeys is a demo. The engineering is real.
Lekali Journeys is a fictional Himalayan trekking company. Its name, people, reviews and contact details are invented for this showcase. The website itself is a complete, production-grade build: catalogue, planner, journal, three languages and a full admin.
What the site does
Trek catalogue
Treks, destinations and categories with day-by-day itineraries, departures, galleries and filters.
Trip planner
A step-by-step planner and an AI chat assistant that answers from the site's own content (retrieval over treks and articles).
Journal
A Wagtail-powered blog with structured rich text, author pages and a sanitised renderer.
Three languages
English, Nepali and Chinese routes, with hreflang alternates and localised metadata.
Admin dashboard
Leads, reviews moderation, treks, destinations, media, SEO and site settings in one place.
Built to be checked
About 1,500 automated frontend tests, typed end to end, accessible to WCAG 2.1 AA.
How it is built
- Frontend
- Next.js 16 (App Router, React Server Components), React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS 4, next-intl
- Backend
- Django 6, Django REST Framework, Wagtail 7, Celery, PostgreSQL
- AI
- Retrieval-augmented planner chat behind a server-only route
- This demo
- Static demo mode on Vercel: every API response is a recorded fixture, forms send nothing
Who built it
Designed and built by Rajat Sapkota, a senior engineer and former CTO based near Kathmandu. I build web platforms and AI tooling end to end, from data model to deployment.
